For those of you returning to training after a significant break from CrossFit or, that have joined us in the past month you may well be feeling the dreaded DOMS.
DOMS is simply delayed onset muscle soreness and relates to the muscle soreness that usually arrives 1-2days post exercise. In our experience it takes 3-4 weeks for the body to adapt to this new style of training. After this time DOMs will become less frequent and shorter in duration. As the saying goes, if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. DOMS is simply your body’s response to the challenge you are presenting it with as it works hard to adapt through getting fitter.
Eating well, staying hydrated, good sleep and some self massage definitely help reduce DOMS. For more information you might find this NHS article useful.
